Gisborne Region

The Gisborne wine trail is a little off the beaten trail but well worth the visit for its tranquil and relaxed atmosphere, and for its high quality wines. As more boutique wineries join the established corporate winemakers the attraction of a visit to the region will only increase. The summers are hot and dry and this is reflected in the 1995 harvest which was spared the late season rains of many of the other North Island vineyards and delivered an excellent vintage.

The region produces some excellent Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, and Reisling or try one of the First Light Reds from the first wine wine region in the world to see the sun each day.
