"Another tiny producer, also a husband and wife team, Dave and Penny Gloevr make unusually deep, stroppy wines in a most picturesque Nelson valley. As their pinot noir and cabernet are dark, muscular things, and their reisling can be quite thrilling, they are not for people with an anaemic constitution, but if you like 'em, you love 'em."
From Management Magazine, February 1995
No doom and gloom this year. These whites rate with anything we have produced so far. They have been in the bottle only two weeks so radical improvement can be expected even though already they are showing great promise.
The 96 Sauvignon Blanc, as usual, bone dry with excellent length, has ripe gooseberry and tropical fruit characters. The acid level is lower than in recent years which will guarantee earlier accessibilty. A year or so in the bottle will be rewarded however.
Those who have good memories of the 92 and 93 Late Harvests will not be disappointed with the 96 Late Harvest Riesling. This wine has lovely apricot and lime fruit characters. 50g/l residual sweetness and good balancing acidity. With alcohol of only 9.3% this wine can be enjoyed in a variety of food situations or simply by itself (750 ml bottles).
The 96 Dry Riesling is perhaps not for the faint hearted. It has rich fruit with a steely acid finish and for most people it would either need some time in the bottle or to be served with food. I think that it has excellent potential.
