Tasting Notes

2005 Poverty Bay Chardonnay

Equal quantities of these ripe, healthy grapes were each fermented in stainless steel and French oak Oak Barriques. After the fermentation was completed they were blended together and aged for four months on their lees. This enhanced the soft and creamy texture. .Peach and apricot flavours emanate, with Melon flavours emerging on the palate. White meat dishes, seafood, salads, mature cheeses and good company of friends or family are ideal partners for this wine. Cellaring potential until 2009.

Price $19.50

2004 Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

These Wairau Valley selected grapes were partly (15%) barrel fermented. They were matured further on their lees gaining more complexity. The aromas are distinctive passion-fruit, with an emerging nuance of grapefruit. As a result of the long fermentation ripe gooseberry flavours dominate the palate. The crisp and zesty acidity leave a long-lasting finish. Salmon dishes (hot or cold), mature camembert, crisp salads or roasted vegetarian plates would all perfectly suit this wine. Drink by Christmas 2007.

Price $22.00

2004 Pahutahi Riesling

These healthy and well-balanced grapes from Tony Armstrong’s Lake Road vineyard had a prolonged fermentation. After six weeks the wine was stop-fermented to retain some natural sweetness. A further two months maturing in oak has added more depth to the delicate structure. Passion fruit and honey-dew melon are dominant on the palate. The balanced acid adds to the lingering finish. An array of dinning from entrées, delicate fish dishes through to mature hard cheeses all match well with this versatile wine. Further complexity will ensure by cellaring this wine until 2009.

Price $19.00

2004 Gewurztraminer

The grapes were grown in Tony Butler’s Bond Road Vineyard in Ormond. After prolonged skin contact the juice was partially barrel fermented. The fermentation was stopped after 28 days to accentuate the tropical fruit flavours. These are predominantly pineapple and guava with a lingering finish. The wine is highly scented displaying classic lychee aromas with a hint of musk. Cajun dishes, Thai cuisine, sweet and sour dishes are ideal food partners or try it with a creamy blue vein cheese. Will age well until 2008

Price $20.00

2002 Cabernet Franc

The grapes were picked at 24.5 Brix in Ohiti Road, Hawkes Bay. After fermentation 13% Cabernet Sauvignon was added and the blend was then matured for 14 months in a combination of French aok barrels. The colour displays dense ripe cherry hues. Rich deep cedar and plum flavours dominate the front palate. Smoky flavours with fine grain tannins add complexity to this powerful and stylish wine. A wide range of dishes such as traditional lamb roasted, grilled vegetables and hearty casseroles are only a few suggestions. This wine will mature until 2008.
